Does the Nipple Need to be Repositioned During Breast Reduction Surgery?

Answer: In most cases, especially those performed with the advanced LeJeour technique, the nipple does not need to be removed or reattached. The patient’s nipple is slightly repositioned to fit the breast’s new shape. Patients who undergo this procedure may lose sensitivity in the nipple and are likely not able to breast feed.

Is the Nipple Repositioned in a Male Breast Reduction as it is in a Female Breast Reduction?

Answer: Because a male breast reduction is performed using SmartLipo, it is not necessary to remove or reposition the nipple. The patient’s nipple will remain intact as the surgeon gently removes excess fat and tissue via small incisions that can be later treated using scar cream, such as Scarguard.
